Fire Station No. 2 at the corner of S. Milwaukee Avenue and E. Prospect Street reopened this week after a major renovation project. $646,000 in American Rescue Plan funds were used to bring the fire station up to modern standards and make it more comfortable living environment for firefighters.
This Jackson Fire Department station was closed in 2011 due to budget cuts. With the City of Jackson in a better financial situation, Station No. 2 was reopened in Jan. 2022 to provide quicker response times to the southern areas of the City, along with improving mutual aid assistance to Summit Township. The station closed again for several months so the renovation project could be completed.
An open house event for the community to see the renovated fire station is planned for the spring.
