[ARCHIVED] S. West Avenue closing on Thursday, Jan. 27 for tree removal

road closed sign

A busy street in Jackson is closing to traffic on Thursday, Jan. 27 to allow for the safe removal of a tree.  The Department of Public Works (DPW) is shutting down S. West Avenue between W. Franklin Street and Carlton Boulevard at 8 a.m. This one-block stretch of the street will likely be closed through Thursday afternoon so crews can safely remove a large dead tree. S. West Avenue is a major roadway that connects several west-side residential neighborhoods.

The DPW is removing the tree so it does not become a hazard to drivers and pedestrians in the event it comes down in a weather event. Drivers are advised to take alternate routes during the closure, such as S. Wisner Street or Fourth Street. Updates about the closure will be posted on the City website and Facebook page.
