Following the outcome of the Nov. 2 General Election, the City of Jackson is preparing to welcome a new Mayor and Ward 3 City Councilmember.
Daniel Mahoney, who currently represents Jackson on the County Board of Commissioners, will officially become Mayor after being sworn-in on Dec. 1, 2021. After he is sworn-in, Mahoney will make history as Jackson's first African-American Mayor.
Angelita Gunn, who won the election for Ward 3 City Council, will also begin her term after being sworn-in on Dec. 1. Current City Councilmembers Arlene Robinson (Ward 1) and Karen Bunnell (Ward 5) will start new terms on Dec. 1 after winning re-election. The Mayor serves a two-year term, while Councilmembers serve for four years.
The City's Vice Mayor and City Council Parliamentarian will be selected by the council at their Dec. 1 meeting.
