Second Ward City Councilmember Freddie Dancy has planned a neighborhood meeting for Monday, April 26 at 6 p.m. on the Zoom platform to meet with residents virtually.
Police activity in the Second Ward and the proposed Neighborhood Association Ordinance will be discussed at the virtual event. Reviewed by the City Council at their last meeting, the ordinance outlines neighborhoods in Jackson and creates a framework for residents to start a neighborhood association that’s affiliated with the City. The ordinance is intended to increase connections amongst neighbors and foster neighborhood identities. Councilmember Dancy says he’d like to hear resident feedback on the ordinance. Chief Elmer Hitt from the Jackson Police Department will also attend the meeting to talk about recent police activity in the neighborhood.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Jackson City Councilmembers would hold in-person meetings in their wards to meet with residents and present information on City programs. Councilmember Dancy’s meeting is the first virtual neighborhood meeting to be planned since the pandemic started.
