[ARCHIVED] Jackson City Council Meeting Oct. 13, 2020

City Council meeting in MLK Center pavilion.

The Jackson City Council had an unusual venue for its Tuesday, Oct. 13 meeting. The meeting was held at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center pavilion.  Due to the ending of Executive Orders on virtual meetings and COVID-19 concerns, the meeting was held outdoors. It was livestreamed on the City Facebook page and website. Several residents attended. This was the first full in-person meeting since March.

Here’s what was decided at the meeting:

-The council approved the first reading of an ordinance to create the MLK Drive Improvement Authority. A final vote on the second reading will take place at a future meeting.

-A resolution was approved to set trick-or-treat hours from 6-8 p.m. on Oct. 31. The resolution comes with COVID-19 safety recommendations.

-The council accepted plans to reconstruct Morrell Street from Greenwood Avenue to MLK Drive and Steward Avenue from the railroad tracks to Ganson Street. Further action will need to be taken by the council before these projects are officially planned.

-A grant was accepted from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to install lighting on the MLK Equality Trail from Prospect Street in Jackson to Weatherwax Drive in Summit Township.

The next meeting is taking place Tuesday, Oct. 27. No plans for the next meeting have been determined.
