National Night Out is a nationwide initiative designed to strengthen the relationship between residents, police officers, and firefighters through fun, community-focused events. This year’s celebration will include games, food, local vendors, and a free backpack giveaway. A total of 50 backpacks filled with back-to-school supplies will be distributed. 25 for students in grades 1–4 and 25 for grades 5–7. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet local police officers and firefighters, and explore patrol cars, firetrucks, and ambulances up close. The event is organized by the Jackson Police Department and the City of Jackson Group Violence Intervention Program. “This event strengthens existing relationships and forms new bonds so we can continue to make Jackson a great place to live,” said Ward 2 City Councilmember Freddie Dancy. The event is free and open to all ages.
