There’s an upcoming lane closure on a busy street Jackson drivers will want to be prepared for. The City of Jackson Department of Public Works (DPW) is closing S. West Avenue between W. Franklin Street and W. Washington Avenue in one direction from Wednesday, June 28 to Thursday, June 29 for an urgent sewer repair.
There’s a collapsed sewer system underneath the street surface that needs immediate repair before it forms a sinkhole. The DPW says the repair will close the northbound lane of S. West Avenue for two days. The southbound lane will remain open. Crews anticipate reopening the entire street either Thursday afternoon or Friday morning.
S. West Avenue is a main roadway through the west side of Jackson, connecting several residential neighborhoods and commercial districts. Because the lane closure is likely to impact traffic through the area, the DPW urges drivers to plan alternate routes away from the closure area.
