[ARCHIVED] City crews working to remove large number of downed trees following storm

Tree blocking street

City of Jackson Dept. of Public Works (DPW) crews are working to remove downed trees and branches after a storm hit Jackson last night.  The DPW has gotten more than 40 requests for tree removals with the south, west and northwest sides seeing the most damage.

It's important to know that the City only removes trees that are located on City-owned property, such as the parkway, vacant lot or park. We do not do removals on private property. City trees that have damaged a home, vehicle or are blocking a street/sidewalk are given first priority. DPW crews expect to be cleaning up after the storm for the rest of the week.

Call the DPW at 517-788-4170 to report a tree issue. If you encounter a downed power line, Consumers Energy says to report it to 911 and then call at 800-477-5050.
