Young women looking to explore a career in police, fire or EMS have an opportunity this summer. City of Jackson Police and Fire Services is hosting its first-ever Future Female First Responders Camp June 25-27.

Running from 8 a.m. to  5 p.m. with lunch provided, participants will get hands-on learning experience with women working in public safety careers. The camp will feature interactive sessions, team-building activities, safety lessons, and opportunities to see what it’s like to work as a first responder.

Assistant Fire Chief Joe Smith was inspired to bring a free camp like this to Jackson after seeing its success in a neighboring community. “We want young women to know that a career in public safety is an option for them and it’s good to get that exposure at a young age,”  Assistant Chief Smith said. “We need the best people available to help keep our communities safe, so it’s important we welcome the next generation of first responders.”

The camp is open to girls ages 14-18 years old entering high school for the 2024-25 school year. There are limited spots available so it’s important to register as soon as possible. Participants may register online. Questions about the camp are directed to JFDinfo@cityofjackson.org
