Jackson drivers will want to prepare for upcoming construction taking place in a busy commercial area. A street resurfacing project is set to begin on W. North Street on Monday, Sept. 25.
A three block section of the street between N. Wisner Street and N. West Avenue will receive a new street surface, along with curb, sidewalk and driveway improvements. A new sidewalk will be added between Eaton and Hibbard streets to increase pedestrian connectivity in the neighborhood. The project will also extend to the intersection of N. Wisner and W. North, bringing fresh pavement to this pothole-plagued intersection.
This portion of W. North Street connects residents to the high traffic N. West and N. Wiser commercial corridors. One westbound lane will be open during the construction, with eastbound traffic being directed to a detour. The street will not experience a full shutdown so access to businesses can be maintained and traffic does not become congested in the area.
The construction project is expected to wrap up in mid-November.
