Behind the City of Jackson sign in Downtown Jackson is a small park with lots to offer. Bucky Harris Park was created in 1998. Its name honors longtime Jackson resident Charles "Bucky" Harris, a local businessman who owned the Harris Building next to the park (now the Blake Building). This park features:

  • Fire pit (operates during the winter months)
  • Public bathrooms (open during special events)
  • Performance stage
  • Historical markers

One of the markers installed in 2020 recognizes the anti-slavery newspapers that were established in buildings that once stood in the park location. Research from local historian Linda Hass shows Michigan's first anti-slavery newspaper was established in this location. Hass also helped uncover history behind the park's name.
