Public Hearing planned for directing federal funds to COVID-19 response

The City of Jackson continues to respond to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. A public hearing is planned for Tuesday, May 26 at 6:30 p.m. during the Jackson City Council meeting. The hearing is needed for a proposed substantial amendment to the 2019-2020 Annual Action Plan. The proposed amendment involves a supplemental allocation of Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) to prevent, prepare for, and respond to coronavirus-related grants. 

A summary of the initial proposed use is as follows:

Homeless Prevention 

  • Water Shutoff Protection: $125,000 
  • Foreclosure Prevention: $60,000
  • Eviction Protection: $120,000
  • Subtotal: $305,000 

Administration/Planning

  • City of Jackson: $60,000 
  • Community Action Agency: $20,000 
  • Subtotal: $80,000 

A waiver provided by U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) reduces the comment period for Substantial Amendments to no less than five (5) days, which begins May 13, 2020 and ends May 26, 2020. All parties, organizations, and individuals interested in reviewing a copy of the City’s Substantial Amendment may do so in the Grant Reports section of the City’s website. The Jackson City Council will hold a virtual public hearing on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. during the Jackson City Council meeting, which will be livestreamed through the City of Jackson Facebook page and website. The purpose of the public hearing is to receive citizen comments on the CDBG-CV Substantial Amendment and Amendment to the Citizen Participation Plan presented to City Council on May 12, 2020. All comments received during the public hearing will be considered and a summary incorporated into the Substantial Amendment. For comments to be specifically read during the public hearing, please submit via email to the City Clerk’s Office.
