The Jackson City Council held their second digital meeting during the COVID-19 pandemic on Tuesday, March 31. Mayor Derek Dobies was the only official in the Council Chambers. Other officials and councilmembers joined by phone or video. Here are a few items the council voted on:
-The council voted unanimously to reestablish the Rules and Personnel Policy Committee. This committee is tasked with reviewing the compensation and job performances of appointed officials. Mayor Dobies, Councilmember Alexander and Councilmember Dwyer Schlecte will serve on the committee until the end of the year.
-A vote on the Interim City Manager’s compensation was delayed, pending review from the reformed Rules and Personnel Policy Committee.
-A contract was awarded to improve lighting in Loomis Park.
-Several summer community events such as the Art, Beer and Wine Festival, Back to School Blast, Juneteenth Celebration and Relay for Life were approved.
Council meetings will continue using this altered format until further notice.
