Community Meeting for Choice Neighborhoods Plan
Thursday, June 16, 2022
Jackson residents are invited to give input on the future of affordable housing in the City of Jackson. Two community meetings are planned in June for residents be involved in the Choice Neighborhoods Plan for Downtown Jackson. The plan is focused on redeveloping the Jackson Housing Commission’s Reed Manor location and envisioning new housing opportunities in the Downtown Jackson area.
The Jackson Housing Commission, in partnership with the City of Jackson, was awarded a Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grant for the Downtown Jackson neighborhood. Jackson was one of eight communities nationwide that received the grant in 2021. The grant powers efforts to identify community housing needs, collect resident feedback, and come up with solutions to shift Reed Manor residents into new housing units in the downtown neighborhood.
The two community meetings are an opportunity for residents to provide input on what type of affordable housing options they’d like to see in the downtown area and learn more about getting involved in this effort. The meetings are in an “open house” style and participants can attend whenever they choose. There will be refreshments, activities for families, and prizes!
- Thursday, June 16, 5-6:30 p.m. Reed Manor, Patio by Building C, 301 Steward Ave.
- Friday, June 17, 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Grand River Farmer’s Market, Intersection of Pearl and Mechanic.
