John Lillie is from Jonesville. He graduated from Jonesville High School and attended Grand Valley State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. John attended the Kellogg Community College Police Academy, and then joined the Jackson Police Department in November of 2006.
As a patrol officer, John was a field training officer; a member of the Honor Guard; and held several instructor certifications, including defensive tactics and firearms. John joined the Jackson Special Response Team in 2012, and attended the Western Wayne SWAT School in 2013. John was promoted to sergeant in 2016. During his career as a sergeant, John oversaw the road patrol, the Detective Bureau, and the Violent Crimes Unit. John was promoted to Lieutenant in 2023, where he now works as the Patrol Operations Commander and the Commander of the Special Response Team. He brings a wealth of patrol experience and leadership skills to our department.
