Important Dates

February

  • February 1 - Personal property statements due
  • February 14 - Last day to pay previous year’s winter taxes without penalty
  • Final week of February - Annual change in assessment notices are sent out

March

  • Second Week of March - Board of Review meets to hear appeals on property assessments and property classification

May

  • May 31 - Deadline for filing commercial and industrial appeals with the Michigan Tax Tribunal

June

  • June 1 - Filing deadline for principal residential exemption (you must own and occupy by this date to receive the exemption)
  • June 30 - Deadline for filing classification appeals with the State Tax Commission

July

  • July 1 - Current year summer tax bills are mailed
  • Tuesday Following the 3rd Monday in July - July Board of Review meets to correct mutual mistakes, clerical errors, principle residential exemptions, and verified poverty exemptions
  • July 20 - First payment is due if making payments on summer tax bill
  • July 31 - Deadline for filing residential appeals with the Michigan Tax Tribunal (first must have appealed to the March Board of Review)
  • July 31 - Summer tax bill is due (if not using the payment plan)

December

  • December 1 - Winter tax bills are mailed
  • Tuesday following 2nd Monday in December - December Board of Review meets to correct mutual mistakes, clerical errors, principle residential exemptions, and verified poverty exemptions
  • December 31 - Tax Day: Property is assessed based on the condition and statutes on ‘tax day’
