Policemens & Firemens Pension Fund (the original Police & Fire Plan)

Membership to the plan was available to police officers and fire fighters who were regular City employees and were hired prior to July 1, 1973. Revenue for the Fund is derived from City contributions, interest, dividends and other income from investments of the Pension Fund. City contributions are actuarially computed so that sufficient funds exist to fully fund the costs of benefits likely to be paid on account of service rendered and to finance the unfunded costs of benefits likely to be paid on account of prior years of service. The Plan also contains an escalation clause which requires that pensions and annuities be adjusted whenever a change occurs in the rates of members' current salaries. This Fund was adopted by referendum on November 5, 1957 via City Charter.

Meetings are held the first Wednesday of February, May, August and November at 9:00 a.m. in the 10th Floor Conference Room of Jackson City Hall, 161 W. Michigan Avenue, Jackson, MI 40201.
