Pete Postma was born and raised in Jackson. He enlisted in the US Army in 1994. He served for 25 years as a Military Police Officer. During his military career, he received numerous awards, commendations, and was mobilized oversees twice. He retired as a Sergeant First Class from the Army Reserve in 2019.
Pete began his career with the Jackson Police Department as a Reserve Officer in 1998. He attended the Mid-Michigan Police Academy and became a sworn police officer in January, 2002. He was promoted to sergeant in 2018 and promoted to lieutenant in 2023, where he serves as the Support Operations Commander. During Pete’s career, he has received the Medal of Valor Award, two Meritorious Citations, and two Life Saving Awards. He has served as a SWAT Operator for the Jackson Special Response Team; a Field Training Officer; a Firearms Instructor; an Evidence Technician; an Active Shooter Instructor; and a Defensive Tactics Instructor.
Over 20 years of Pete’s career was spent working night shift. The community and our department benefit from his life experiences, years of service, and in-depth knowledge of our City.
