The Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) is charged with hearing requests for variances from the city’s zoning ordinance. The Board also hears requests for variances from the sign ordinance as the City's Sign Board of Appeals (SBA). Variance appeals are considered in relation to the establishment of hardship and requests must satisfy several criteria in order to establish that hardship. An additional responsibility of the Board is to provide the official interpretation of the zoning and sign ordinances. Appeals from decisions of the ZBA/SBA are taken to Circuit Court.
