The Third Ward is the Northeast
section of the City of Jackson. Starting at the very Northwest corner of
the Ward, which is located at Lansing Avenue at Commonwealth Avenue.
The Jackson County Medical Care Facility is basically right
there. The northern City
border goes straight east from here to the East city limit, which is
located in some wetlands just south of Hillcrest Memorial Park cemetery.
The East border of the City extends straight south through these
wetlands. As you continue
south, you’ll arrive at a factory called Edscha, which many will
recall as the former ITT Hancock plant.
The City’s east border runs just east of the factory.
Leroy Avenue runs east and west and serves as the southern border
of the Third Ward here. Leroy
dead-ends at the factory; to establish the southeast corner of the ward,
extend Leroy along an imaginary line to east of the factory.
Starting from this southeast corner, follow Leroy Avenue west to
N. Gorham Street. Turn
right heading north on Gorham one block to North Street.
Turn left on North Street, heading west on North Street to Ellery
Avenue. Turn left on Ellery
heading south once again to Ganson Street.
Turn right on Ganson Street heading west once again.
Ganson Street is the main southern border of the Third Ward.
Follow Ganson to Steward Avenue.
This intersection forms the southwestern corner of the Third
Ward. Note: this section of
Steward Avenue is a one-way heading south; it is however, the west
border of the Ward at this point. Proceed
north along Steward Avenue to where it merges with Lansing Avenue just
south of Yogi’s Party Store. Now
proceed north along Lansing Avenue, which is the main western border of
the Ward, until arriving back at the Medical Care Facility.
