Weeds & Grass

According to city ordinance, no property owner shall permit growth of noxious weeds, grass, or other vegetation to a height greater than eight inches. Also, the owner shall not allow accumulation of dead noxious weeds, grass or brush on their premises.

The Jackson Citizen Patriot
will print a notice to property owners not in compliance in March of each year. If removal of weeds, grass or other vegetation is not accomplished, the Director of Public Works shall arrange mowing or removal and the property owner will be invoiced.

Noxious weeds include:

  • Canada thistle (circium arvense)
  • Dodders (any species of cuscuta)
  • Mustards (charlock, black mustard and Indian mustard, species of Brassica or Sinapis)
  • Wild carrot (daucus carota)
  • Bindweed (convolvulus arvensis)
  • Perennial sowthistle (sonchus arvensis)
  • Hoary alyssum (berteroa icana)
  • Ragweed (ambrosia elatior )
  • Poison ivy (rhus toxicodendron)
  • Poison sumac (toxicodendron vernix)

Any other plant which, in the opinion of the city forester or his or her designee, is regarded as a common nuisance.
