Leaf Pickup Schedule

Beginning October 25th, 2011, the City of Jackson will be starting the Annual Leaf Pickup Program.  The City has been divided into ten (10) sections to schedule when crews will be in an area for leaf pickup.  Leaves may be raked into the gutter “up to 5 days” prior to the posted schedule date.  See the attached map for pickup dates in your area.

The ten (10) sections that the city has been divided into have breaks on the major streets.  A resident can find out when we will be in their area by looking at the map and determine which major streets they are between.

DPW crews will pick up leaves and grass raked into the street along the curb and leaves placed in biodegradable paper bags set near the curb.  Small branches and twigs bundled and tied with biodegradable twine to a maximum bundle size of 24” long and 12” diameter can be placed near the curb, not in the street – the same as with the biodegradable bags.

To facilitate the crews picking up the leaves in the street, please don’t park vehicles on the street the day of the scheduled pickup until after the crews have been through the area.  There are scheduled days in the program to allow the crews to catch up as needed.  In the event that we are not at your area on the scheduled day, we will be there as soon as possible.  Parked vehicles in the path of the crew’s equipment make it difficult for the crews to pickup the leaves and clean the street.

After the DPW crews have picked up leaves in an area, it is prohibited to rake or place leaves into the street.  From October 17th, 2011 through December 9th, 2011, DPW will have bins available to drop off bagged leaves and yard waste at no charge at the DPW facilities at 521 Water Street.  The yard waste bags must be biodegradable paper.  Proper identification showing residency is required.
