John Holda

Deputy Chief of Police John HoldaJohn Holda was born and raised in Jackson.

He began his career at the Jackson Police Department in 1988 as a Police cadet. He served in that capacity until 1990 when he graduated from the Washtenaw Police Academy and was hired as a Police Officer. As an officer, he worked various shifts and served as a Community Policing Officer for two years.

Deputy Chief Holda was promoted to Sergeant in 1998. He worked both day and night shifts as a patrol supervisor and worked as the Administrative Sergeant, which is responsible for recruiting, policies & procedures, internal affairs and grant writing. He served as Patrol Operations Commander since being promoted to Lieutenant in 2001. In March 2008, John was promoted to Deputy Chief of Police.

He graduated from Jackson High School, attended Jackson Community College, and is pursuing a Public Administration degree from Western Michigan University. Deputy Chief Holda completed Jackson Community Leadership Academy in 2001, Northwest University’s School of Police Staff and Command in 2002 and The FBI
National Academy in 2003.

Deputy Chief Holda’s community involvement includes:

  • Participant in the JPS HOSTS program for the past 6 years
