2005-2006 Annual Report For Jackson
Wastewater Treatment Plant
The Jackson Wastewater Treatment Plant
located on Lansing Avenue (north of town) services the City of Jackson,
parts of Blackman, Napoleon, Spring Arbor/Sandstone, Summit townships,
and the State Prison of Southern Michigan.
The wastewater coming to the plant in fiscal year 2005-2006 averaged
about 12.5 million gallons per day. In fiscal year 2005-2006 around 3
million gallons of sludge/biosolids were put on area farm fields and
about 3,400 cubic yards were disposed of at the county designated
landfill.
To help prevent problems and to keep informed on what kind of materials
are in our service area our pretreatment personnel do inspections,
monitoring, and if needed enforcement activities.
Our laboratory personnel perform many chemical tests on the plants
incoming wastewater, in plant processes waters, and plant discharge. Our
lab personnel also check our bulk township sewage discharges.
Our maintenance and sludge personnel maintain 16 buildings, over 18
vehicles, 62 process tanks, and 9 city sewage lift stations.
In fiscal year 2005-2006 a planning study was performed. The study
indicates we presently have adequate treatment capacity to handle the
anticipated growth needs for a number of years. The study recommended we
perform some replacement and upgrade work. We are presently hiring
engineers so plans and specifications can be developed for future
construction work.
What we do at the Wastewater Treatment Plant:
- Operate and maintain the treatment plant 24 hours a day, 365 days per
year;
- Inspect, monitor and permit industrial users in the city and connected
townships who discharge wastewater to the treatment plant.;
- Bill and sample the township wholesale customers for their proportionate
share of the treatment plant services;
- Oversee and do the maintenance on the R.A. Greene Park (park where the
ducks and train are located)
- Maintain city sewage lift stations;
- Oversee and/or do the recycling/disposal of treated sludge, grit,
screenings and sewer cleanings;
- Have replacement and capital spending projects developed and implemented
for the treatment plant and city lift stations;
