| The Purchasing Department works
closely with businesses, City departments and management, coordinating
through the procurement process and in accordance with the provisions of
the City Charter. Our goal is to procure quality products and
services efficiently, cost effectively and in a timely manner.
The City and County of Jackson with continuing
interest in intergovernmental cooperation established a Purchasing
Committee to identify products and services common to both
agencies. The committee was formed with expectations of producing
higher levels of services, maximizing value and streamlining the
procurement process. The City Purchasing Department chairs and
administers that program. These efforts have resulted in
governmental cooperation. cost savings and operational efficiency.
Other functions and responsibilities of this
department, in addition to procuring products and services, include:
- Citywide contracts;
- the Procurement Card Program;
- Mail Room operations;
- City Hall maintenance;
- the City's insurance program;
- maintaining current inventory/asset records and
- sale or disposal of surplus equipment
A Commodity Code classification program installed
this year gives the ability to track bids efficiently, by standardizing
detail product and service information. In addition, a Vendor's
Manual was designed to acquaint contractors with the City's purchasing
policies and procedures. We welcome and encourage all suppliers to
register and visit the City of Jackson Purchasing department.
