Welcome to the official homepage of the
City of Jackson, Michigan. The city, along with our web partner AMS
Developers, is pleased to bring you this site. I trust you will find our
latest presence on the World Wide Web informative to the curious as well
as useful to those wanting to conduct day-to-day business with us.
With the implementation of our new site, city departments and the
services they provide will be no more than a mouse click away. New is
the ability to
pay your water and sewer bill on line. Additionally, you will
find information on economic development, and the Downtown Development
Authority, including an inventory of available downtown property as well
as the many events sponsored by the DDA.
If you’re looking for organized or individualized recreation activities,
our park system is second to none. Be it golf, softball, football,
soccer, swimming, basketball, or skateboarding, Jackson has all of it
for you. Along with the water park, the city has a skateboard / inline
skate facility at Nixon Park. Each summer we hope to add further
improvements to the water park as well as more parking for the Nixon
Park ball diamonds.
Jackson’s industrial landscape of the past continues to be erased with
the reclamation and redevelopment of old contaminated Brownfield sites.
One of the largest sites, was cleared and is the home of the new $250
million Kinder Morgan electricity plant. The face of our downtown
continues to evolve. Consumers Energy has moved into its new corporate
headquarters and construction of downtown housing above storefronts is
in full swing. In the Harris now Blake building, we have a new – old
building that is converting to a mixed use of commercial, office, and
housing.
A continually updated calendar of events and the ability to download
certain forms including one for voter registration are available online.
City Council minutes, agendas and meeting notices will continue to be
posted on our site.
It’s no secret that many communities in Michigan are facing hard times.
Through sound budgeting and tight restrictions on spending, we have been
able to weather the economic downturn in very good shape. By maintaining
a strong fund balance, we should be able to provide the same level of
service you have come to expect from the City of Jackson.
There are many exciting things happening in Jackson. I hope you will
check back with us on a regular basis for updates.
