The
Jackson Fire Prevention Code states that buildings which have automatic
alarm systems, and in which access might be difficult because of locked
doors or other opening, may be required to install a key box which has
been approved by the Jackson Fire Department, and which shall contain
keys to locked portions of the building.
The
only key box which has been approved by the Jackson Fire Department is
the Knox Box brand key box.
One key will access all boxes with a specific key configuration
assigned to all Jackson businesses.
Only keys held by the Jackson Fire Department will open these
boxes, and purchase of the box must be made on application forms
provided by the Jackson Fire Department.
Currently
over 300 boxes have been installed with several more in the process of
order and/or installation. This
project is currently a year around project incorporated into the annual
company inspection program to target and provide applications to
businesses allowing them to meet the requirements of the ordinance. During the In-Service Inspection the keys located in the box
are checked to ascertain that they are current.
