The City of Jackson Fire Department ordinance regarding fireworks
states:
Section 18-183. Fireworks
No person shall fire, discharge, display or possess any of the
following:
- Firecrackers, torpedoes, skyrockets, Roman candles, bottle rockets,
whistling chasers, rockets on sticks or other fireworks of like
construction containing more than .25 grain of explosive mixture.
- Fireworks containing an explosive or flammable compound or a tablet
or other device commonly used and sold as fireworks containing nitrates,
fulminates, chlorates, oxalates, sulphides of lead, barium, antimony,
arsenic, mercury, nitroglycerine, phosphorous, or a compound containing
these or other modern explosives.
Here are some safety tips, when it comes to buying, using, or enjoying
your fireworks:
- Always buy from a n established retail outlet
- Never make your own fireworks, and be on the lookout for teens
experimenting with home-made fireworks.
- Have a responsible adult in charge.
- Never give fireworks to children.
- Always read and follow the directions on the label
- Only use fireworks outdoors…
- Keep a bucket of water handy
- The person shooting the fireworks should wear eye protection – and
never have any part of their body over a firework.
- Light only one firework at a time – and never re-light a “dud”
firework.
- Never shoot fireworks in metal or glass containers – and don’t even
think about carrying them in your pocket!
- Dispose of fireworks properly – when you’re done – soak them in water
before putting them in the trash can.
