There
are approximately 2,200 street lights within the Jackson city limits,
most of which are owned and maintained by Consumers Energy. The other
street lights, mainly in the downtown area, are owned and maintained by
Department of Engineering. The city street lights are a high-pressure
sodium, energy efficient type designed and installed to provide a safe
level of illumination on the roadways. The average light bulb has an
effective life of about four years.
Street Light Outages
Street light problems can be reported by calling the Department of
Engineering at 517/788-4160 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., calling
Consumers Energy at 1-800-477-5050, or visiting the Consumers Energy web
site at consumersenergy.com and clicking on “For Home”.
New
Street Lights
The
Department of Engineering works with Consumers Energy to install new
street lights as requested by the Police Department, Councilmembers or
city citizens. When a request is received, department staff
investigates the necessity of additional lighting based on the proximity
of existing street lights. If you believe a new street light would be
beneficial in your neighborhood, you can call the department at
788-4160. |
