The Department of Engineering is responsible for the maintenance of
all the traffic signals within Jackson County, which are approximately
150. The signals are designed, constructed and operated to allow for
safe movement of vehicles and pedestrians through heavily traveled or
hazardous locations. Most signals within the County have timing patterns
that change throughout the day and on different days of the week to
provide optimal traffic flow.
Problems occasionally develop because of failure of the electronic
components in the signals, power fluctuations, bulb burn-outs or damage.
Common problems are for the red, green or yellow light to be out,
flashing signals or "stuck" signals.
Traffic signal problems can be reported in two ways, depending on the
time of day:
Call Department of Engineering 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday
through Friday, at 517/788-4160.
Call Police Department during nights or weekends at 517/788-4100.
