Through a Michigan Department of
Environmental Quality Waterfront Redevelopment Grant, the City has
entered early development stages of the Urban Arts Leg of Riverwalk
Trail, which will provide the connection of the Armory Arts Village
project, the downtown, the open-air Riverwalk public amphitheater,
Farmer's Market and public sculpture ArtsWalk. Completion of the Grand
River ArtsWalk will create a destination event to attract visitors to
downtown and connect them to arts-related events at the Armory Arts
Village. Trail construction should begin in the fall of 2006 or spring
of 2007. At its February 28, 2006 meeting, the Jackson City Council
unanimously approved entering into a Professional Services Contract with
Hamilton Anderson Associates of Detroit to act as its consultant on the
project.
