JANUARY 24, 2008

JACKSON CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL ORIENTATION MEETING

The Jackson City Council met in special session for orientation in City Hall. Mayor Ludwig convened the meeting at 1:07 p.m.

Present: Mayor Jerry F. Ludwig and Councilmembers Daniel P. Greer, Kenneth E. Gaiser, Andrew R. Frounfelker and John R. Polaczyk. Councilmember Robert B. Howe arrived at 1:12 p.m. Councilmember Carl L. Breeding was absent with excuse.

CITY COUNCIL ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES.

The City Manager discussed citizen complaints, conflicts of interest, pay days and agenda packet distribution.

DEPARTMENT HEAD OVERVIEW.

Presentations were given by the following departments: Manager, Assessor, Attorney, Clerk, Treasurer, Finance, Community Development, Police, Fire, Engineering, Parks/Recreation, Personnel & Labor Relations, Purchasing, Public Services/Water and Wastewater Treatment.

Councilmember Howe left the meeting at 4:18 p.m.

AFFILIATED GROUPS OVERVIEW.

Presentations were given by the Downtown Development Authority and Region 2 Planning Commission.

CURRENT/FUTURE ISSUES.

The City Manager briefly discussed the Sheraton Hotel building and the possibility of partnering with the Community Action Agency on another project.

GOAL SETTING AND UPDATE SESSION.

The City Manager would like to schedule a meeting for strategic planning in February or March.

ADJOURNMENT.

A motion was made by Councilmember Greer and seconded by Councilmember Polaczyk to adjourn the meeting. The motion was adopted by unanimous voice vote and the meeting adjourned at 5:05 p.m.
