The Jackson City Council met in special session in the second floor Council Chambers of City Hall for a sign ordinance workshop. Mayor Jerry F. Ludwig called the meeting to order at 9:05 a.m., with Councilmembers Carl L. Breeding, Daniel P. Greer, Sarah E. Mead, Andrew R. Frounfelker and John R. Polaczyk in attendance. Councilmember William A. Mure was absent with excuse.
Deputy City Attorney Susan Murphy led the discussion on the draft of the City of Jackson Sign Ordinance. Using a power point presentation, she worked through the document noting that “like” matters were placed together and new terms were added to the definitions, which were now more user friendly. Discussion also included the permit process, revocable licenses for signs in the right-of-way, temporary signage, non-conforming signage, movable parts and changeable copy. Holding a second workshop after this information goes to the public, was also mentioned.
Carolyn Whaley, the Teddy Bear Warehouse at 128 W. Michigan, and Paul Green, Got You Covered at 314 N. Francis Street, were present and asked questions. A letter from Philip Wrzesinski of the Toy House, located at 400 N. Mechanic, was distributed.
Mayor Ludwig left the meeting at 10:30 a.m. and Councilmember Polaczyk left at 11:05 a.m. The meeting concluded at 11:25 a.m.
