Parking Management consists of the parking manager and 2 parking enforcement workers. The parking enforcement workers monitor parking in the downtown parking lots and on downtown streets from 1st Street to Francis Street and from Glick Highway to Wesley Street. The Police Department also monitors parking downtown as well as the entire city.
These permits are color coded for specific parking lots. Permit parking and visitor parking spaces are identified by signs in each of the lots. Permit parking is reserved between 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily. A new system of parking permits has been instituted in the downtown area. Permits can be purchased from the City Clerk's Office at:
161 W. Michigan Ave.
Jackson, MI 49201
The city also owns 2 parking decks that are operated just like the permit parking lots. As with the surface lots when permit parking is posted, the permit parking is reserved between 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily. Permit lots and the parking decks are available for public parking after 5 p.m. weekdays until 6 a.m. the next weekday and all weekend.
Drivers with any valid, state-issued handicapped tags on their vehicles are welcome to park as long as necessary in all visitor areas of the city lots and on city streets. Handicapped parking spaces are not provided on the city streets due to possible unsafe entry and exit from the vehicle by the handicapped driver.
