Original written appeals must be received by 5 p.m. on the last posted day of Board of Review for March 2014. For all properties, please include a completed Board of Review Appeal Petition (PDF). For rental, commercial, and industrial properties, also include a completed Rental, Commercial, and Industrial Income and Expense Analysis Form (PDF).

If you wish to appeal your property assessment in person, please call the assessing department at 517-788-4033 after receipt of your Notice of Assessment in February of 2014 to schedule an appointment for the 2014 March Board of Review. You will need to complete the following form(s) to bring with you to your appointment:
Board of Review
The board meets, according to state law, during the second week of March. Dates and times for the 2014 March Board of Review are:
  • Monday, March 10, 2014, from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Tuesday, March 11, 2013, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Special Assessments
For special assessments please note that appearance and protest at the City Council's Board of Review hearing is required in order to appeal the special assessment to the Michigan Tax Tribunal if an appeal is desired. A Property owner or party in interest, or his or her agent, may appear in person at the hearing to protest the special assessment or may file his or her appearance by letter delivered to the City Clerk by 5 p.m. the day the Board of Review meets, and his or her personal appearance shall not be required. Petitions for special assessments are available at the City Assessor's Office and at the City Council's Board of Review hearing, you may also access the online petition (PDF). The property owner or any person having interest in the property subject to the proposed special assessment may file a written appeal of the special assessment with the Michigan Tax Tribunal within 30 days after confirmation of the special assessment roll if that special assessment was protested at this hearing.
